In Bordeaux, Burgundy, and all regions of France, the 1990 vintage is successful and the wines are excellent. What makes this vintage exceptional in the century is its ability to produce consistent and successful wines across all French vineyards. The 1990 Bordeaux wines are the result of extraordinary maturity and are fruity, quite powerful, with supple tannins. The best wines of this vintage are Château Calon Segur 1990, Château La Conseillante 1990, Petrus 1990, Château Ausone 1990, Château Grand Puy Lacoste 1990, Château Léoville Barton 1990... The Sauternes are rather successful, such as Château Guiraud 1990, rich and concentrated. In Burgundy, the 1990 vintage is of excellent quality. Wines of great stature, with lots of extract and tannin, and a beautiful dark color. The wines have very good aging potential. The best Burgundy 1990 wines are from the appellations: Nuits-Saint-Georges, Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint Véran, and Vosne-Romanée. In the Rhône Valley, the particularly successful appellations are: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Hermitage, and Gigondas.
