Château Chasse-Spleen, a women's vineyard

Château Chasse-Spleen is a vineyard located in Moulis-en-Médoc, Gironde, France. It was founded in the 19th century by Madame Castaing, a descendant of the Gressier family, who inherited the Grand Poujeaux estate. She renamed the estate Chasse-Spleen, in tribute to her admiration for the poet Charles Baudelaire.

In 1909, the German merchant Segnitz from Bremen became the owner of the estate. It was confiscated in 1914, during World War I. In 1922, the French state put it up for public sale, and it was acquired by Frank Lahary, a man from the Landes region.

Lahary sold the estate in 1976 to Jacques Merlaut, a wine merchant from Sète. His daughter, Bernadette Villars, took the reins of Chasse-Spleen and made it one of the most popular crus bourgeois of the Médoc.

In 1992, Bernadette Villars died accidentally. Her daughter, Claire, took over. In 1999, the Taillan group, of which Chasse-Spleen is a part, reorganized the management of its estates. Céline Villars, Claire's sister and Jacques Merlaut's granddaughter, was appointed director of Chasse-Spleen.

Since then, Céline Villars has continued the work of her predecessors to make Chasse-Spleen a grand cru.
