In Bordeaux, with an early and dry spring, flowering had started well. As for the summer, it was beautiful with a perfect August. Excessive rain in mid-September delayed the harvest, which was able to take place in perfect weather. The result was an abundant harvest with perfectly ripe grapes. The wines are elegant and charming. The white wines, having benefited from the same weather conditions, are appealing, ripe, and pleasant, but some lack a bit of acidity. In Burgundy, an early, mild and pleasant spring and a warm summer season allowed for good grape maturation at harvest time. The 1953 harvest, although small in volume, was good. The red wines of the 1953 vintage are of good quality and evolve favorably. They are delicious, supple and mature. As for the whites, the wines are pleasant, supple and full of elegance although some may lack some structure.

The Rhône Valley benefited from very good weather conditions. The harvest was much better in the north than in the south of the region. Indeed, in the northern part, the 1953 harvest was exceptional. Rhône wines are powerful and age well.

Champagne is a great success. With an ideal balance of sun and rain, the grapes reached perfect maturity. The wines are supple, elegant and balanced. The best 1953 Champagnes age gracefully.

In Bordeaux, 1953 is one of the most successful vintages for red wines. All appellations can boast excellent wines. In Sauternes, Gilette, Lafaurie-Peyraguet and Yquem are at the top.

In Burgundy, both red and white wines are a success. The grand crus such as Chevalier Montrachet, Echézeaux, Chambertin, Romanée Conti... age beautifully over time.

Regarding Champagne, the Pinot Noirs are excellent, the Chardonnays beautiful and the Meuniers satisfactory. The Houses that stand out this year are Jacquesson, Krug, Pommery and Roederer.
