Wine advice

Depending on the case, it should be opened at least four hours before tasting. Once the bottle is uncorked, it's time to smell its contents. Do you like its aroma? Then it's not necessary to aerate the wine for more than an hour before tasting. You can always temporarily close the bottle with a dry cork. If, on the contrary, its aroma seems unpleasant to you, don't worry. After all these years of confinement, the wine needs to be aerated. Don't hesitate to contact our team for further advice.

Tasting an old wine is approached in a completely different way than a recent wine, and what the wine offers us is also very different.

For red wines, over time the tannins will soften, and fruit notes will give way to notes of leather, tobacco, and old wax. The wine "patinates" and the years will continuously make it evolve. It is precisely this journey through time that is sought after.

Every wine you will find for sale on our SoDivin website has been expertized in order to provide you with the maximum information regarding its condition (level, capsule, label, tasting comments by experts). The overall ratings of the vintages can also be consulted by clicking on this link: https://www.sodivin.fr/content/8-cotation-millesime

We make it a point of honor to provide you with all available information, in full transparency, even if it is impossible for us to guarantee the impeccable quality of old vintages. If you have a question about a specific bottle, don't hesitate to contact our team.

The wine should be stored in the calmest conditions possible: total darkness, cool and constant temperature, away from vibrations. Temperature-controlled cellars or traditional cellars are ideal. If needed, you can use our polystyrene packaging as a mini cellar. They will ensure excellent storage conditions for your bottles. Choose the coolest place in your home.

Old wines may have a fragile cork, which tends to tear when opening. Don't hesitate to consult our article on this subject: Blog Article.

The structure is more fragile and subtle than a young bottle, and decanting would only dissipate its subtle charms. Do not serve the wine too warm. An old red wine is best enjoyed around 16°C (60.8°F).

Serve the wine in large glasses. The aromas will be more subtle and muted, and a large glass allows them to be released. You may notice that the second half of the bottle changes in structure and aromas.

In accordance with international practices, SoDivin is not obligated to exchange corked or spoiled bottles. Furthermore, even though all wines are stored under ideal conditions in our cellars, it is impossible for us to guarantee the impeccable quality of old vintages.

Tasting an old wine is totally different than tasting a recent wine and what old wine offers us also is very different.

For red wines, tannins will soften over the time, fruit notes will give way to notes of leather, tobacco, old wax. The wine ""patina"" and the years will continue to make it evolve. It is precisely this journey through time that is sought after. Concerning the sale of old bottles of wine, there is no guarantee of the quality of the wine. When you taste mature wines, there is always a risk: you have to accept to be sometimes disappointed but also ready for a fabulous adventure.

In fact, the ability of a wine to age depends on many points : region, appellation, chateau, vintage and condition of the bottle. Some wines must be drunk shortly (2-5 years) while others can last 1 century or more. It is the reason why some old wines reach astonishing prices. Feel free to contact us to get more information on the drinkability of the wine you are looking for.

The wine must be stored in the most quiet conditions: complete darkness, cool and constant temperature, away from vibrations. Temperature-controlled cellars or traditional cellars are ideal. If needed, you can use our polystyrene packaging as a mini cellar. They will ensure excellent storage conditions for your bottles. Choose the coolest place in your home.

"Store your wine lying down. Stand your bottle up for at least 24 hours before you open it. There will be sediment in the wine and this allows it to fall to the bottom of the bottle.  Do not decant a very old wine. Please note that the cork of an old wine can be really fragile and may be damaged when you open the bottle.

The structure is more fragile and subtle than a young bottle and decanting would only dissipate its subtle charms.  Don't serve the wine too warm. An old red is best served around 16°C.

Serve the wine in large glasses.  The aromas will be more subtle and subdued and a large glass helps to release them.  You may notice that the second half of the bottle changes in structure and aromas."

Concerning the sale of old bottles of wine, there is no guarantee of the quality of the wine. No wine shop, auction house or reseller of any kind guarantees the quality of the wine that they sell. However, we communicate to our clients the most information concerning the factors that can determine the quality of the wine, which is why we were happy to send you a photo of the bottle. Our objective is to be totally transparent concerning these factors.
