The 2002 vintage was an exceptional year for Burgundy wines. In Bordeaux, the wines were saved by the last rains before the harvest. The wines are tannic and have character. The best wines of this vintage are found on the Right Bank of the Médoc, particularly in Saint Emilion. Château Angelus 2002, Château Léoville Poyferré 2002, Château Cheval Blanc 2002 and Château Pavie 2002 offer outstanding wines. The Sauternes are superb but do not match the sweet wines of the 2001 vintage. In Burgundy, the 2002 vintage is of exceptional quality. The red wines are well-balanced and magnificent. The finest appellations of this vintage are Chambolle Musigny, Vosne Romanée... It is considered a great vintage for Champagnes, the wines are refined and suitable for long aging.
