The 2007 vintage is marked by contrasting weather that gave birth to expressive but highly variable wines depending on the region. In red Bordeaux 2007, the appellations Pomerol, Saint-Émilion, Margaux and Pauillac produce accessible, supple and elegant wines, while the Sauternes 2007 stand out for remarkable botrytization and seductive aromatic intensity. In Burgundy, the Gevrey-Chambertin 2007, Vosne-Romanée 2007, Meursault 2007 and Puligny-Montrachet 2007 produce precise, fresh and harmonious wines, with remarkably tense white wines 2007. In the Rhône, the vintage is exceptional: Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2007, Côte-Rôtie 2007, Hermitage 2007 and Cornas 2007 create solar, deep and powerful wines 2007.

Yes, 2007 is a good vintage, but selectively depending on the region. The greatest successes are in the Rhône Valley (exceptional vintage), in Sauternes, in many white Burgundies and Alsace wines, as well as in several Right Bank Bordeaux appellations. It is a vintage saved by a very fine September, which produced harmonious, aromatic wines that are pleasant to drink today.
The 2007 vintage in France remains one of a year troubled by weather but saved by a luminous late season. After a mild winter and very early spring, the vines started quickly, suggesting an easy year ahead. The summer, however, was marked by frequent precipitation, stormy episodes and strong disease pressure, creating great heterogeneity across regions. It was September, dry, warm and windy, that allowed the situation to be salvaged, particularly for late-ripening varieties. This configuration produced wines 2007 highly dependent on the winegrowers' work: where the vines were carefully managed, the red wines 2007 and white wines 2007 show very fine balance.
Today, the wine 2007 is characterized by often accessible and harmonious profiles, with remarkable successes in certain areas.
In Bordeaux, the 2007 vintage was marked by demanding weather, which emphasized vineyard work and sorting at harvest. The humid summer sometimes recalled difficult years, but the return of dry and sunny weather from late August onwards allowed for the harvest of decent grapes, without excessive ripeness, favoring freshness and finesse rather than power. The red wines 2007 from Bordeaux lack the concentration of great years, but they stand out for their supple tannins, crisp red and black fruit aromas and seductive immediate drinkability.
The Pomerol 2007 and Saint-Émilion 2007 often show lovely fleshy, velvety and accessible merlots, with immediate charm. On the left bank, Pauillac 2007, Margaux 2007, Saint-Julien 2007 and Saint-Estèphe 2007 express themselves in a classic style, lighter than long-aging vintages, but with fine aromatic definition. The dry white wines from Pessac-Léognan 2007 are among the finest successes of the year, combining freshness, volume and notes of citrus and white flowers.
The Sauternes 2007 stand out distinctly. Autumn conditions favored regular botrytis, producing rich, fragrant sweet wines, balanced by well-present acidity. These are remarkable wines, worthy of great years in terms of complexity and aging potential.

Aging potential: the best left bank cabernets 2007 are now at maturity and can still be kept for a few more years, while the great Sauternes 2007 possess an aging potential of several decades.
In Burgundy, the 2007 vintage resulted from an early vegetative cycle, followed by a humid summer that complicated grape ripeness. Once again, September played a decisive role by bringing light, moderate warmth and wind, allowing the most demanding estates to harvest healthy grapes. The red wines 2007 from Burgundy, particularly in Côte de Nuits, are characterized by medium structure, fine fruit definition and fine tannins, more focused on elegance than power. The Gevrey-Chambertin 2007, Vosne-Romanée 2007 and Chambolle-Musigny 2007 deliver classic expressions, spicy and floral, with a balanced mouth that is already very enjoyable.
The white wines 2007 from Burgundy are among the finest successes of the decade in this fresher style. Meursault 2007, Puligny-Montrachet 2007, Chassagne-Montrachet 2007 and Corton-Charlemagne 2007 combine acidity tension, volume on the palate and aromatic complexity. The Chablis 2007, particularly the grand crus, stand out for their pronounced minerality, crisp vivacity and great aging potential. These are white wines 2007 that seduce with their balance between freshness, depth and purity.

Aging potential: the great white wines 2007 are now in a superb phase and can still evolve favorably; the reds from the best Côte de Nuits climats are drinking very well now while retaining a reserve of freshness.
The Rhône Valley is undoubtedly the great winner of the 2007 vintage. The climate was generally dry, warm and windy, offering ideal conditions for the ripeness of grenache, syrah and mourvèdre. The wines 2007 from the Rhône are characterized by richness of matter, remarkable concentration and great aromatic intensity.
In the southern Rhône, the Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2007 quickly acquired a reputation as an exceptional vintage. The wines of 2007 are solar, deep, structured, with coated tannins and a very broad aromatic palette, ranging from ripe black fruits to sweet spices, garrigue notes and fine leather. These are wines of great stature, destined for long aging. In neighboring appellations like Gigondas 2007 and Vacqueyras 2007, we find this same generosity, with powerful yet harmonious wines.
In the northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie 2007, Hermitage 2007, Cornas 2007 and Saint-Joseph 2007 deliver syrahs of great depth, with ripe tannins and aromatic profiles marked by violet, blackberry, pepper and sometimes smoky notes. The structure is solid, but the balance remains remarkable, with sufficient freshness to support the richness. The great red wines 2007 from the Rhône are among the most sought-after of the vintage.
