Château Ausone

Château Ausone is a Bordeaux wine estate that produces grand crus in the Saint Emilion appellation in southern France. This estate is one of the 4 châteaux classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé A along with Châteaux Angelus, Cheval Blanc and Pavie. The small 7-hectare vineyard is located on the slopes of Saint-Emilion. Built on the site of Latin poet Ausonius's villa, the estate benefits from a southern exposure, terraced vineyards, and balanced, very old grape varieties. The cellar, carved into the rock, is extraordinary. It has undergone extensive work to reinforce the building's stability. As for the wines, known to take time to develop, they are dense, intense, and possess an aromatic complexity that places Ausone among the very finest estates in Bordeaux. The main grape varieties are Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with Cabernet Franc being the majority at 55%.

We recommend the Château Ausone 1982, and 1983 which is excellent. The Château Ausone 1995, Ausone 1998 and Ausone 2008 are exceptional. Finally, we recommend the Château Ausone 2000, and 2005 which are considered extraordinary vintages, grand crus that even received a 100/100 score from Robert Parker.
