CHÂTEAU BELLEGRAVE 2006
- New
The Pomerol appellation covers 735 hectares within the Bordeaux vineyard, west of Saint-Emilion. In Pomerol, the estates are very small in size but great in quality. Unlike the grand crus of Médoc or Saint-Emilion, Pomerol wines do not have an official classification. However, the market has placed Petrus at the top of the "unofficial" ranking. Other great châteaux notably include L'Eglise Clinet, L'Evangile, La Fleur-Pétrus, Lafleur, Le Pin, Trotanoy, Vieux Château Certan... Merlot largely dominates at 80%, bringing fat and roundness to the wines. The nature of the soil varies: with clay plateaus dotted with gravel to the west, the soils become increasingly sandy moving eastward. It seems that the subsoil, consisting of iron deposits, is the source of the very particular character of Pomerol wines. A nose of violet and truffle, a powerful palate, structured while having remarkable finesse and silkiness. Although they can be drunk young, Pomerols have an excellent ability to age.
