Appellation Condrieu

The Condrieu appellation

Condrieu has been a French controlled appellation of origin (AOC) since 1940. Located in the northern Rhône, Condrieu is located between the Côte-Rôtie to the north and Saint Joseph to the south. Its peculiarity is that it only produces white wines and the only grape that is harvested there is Viognier. There are nearly 90 wine producers. Condrieu wines are very rare and highly sought after. Its grape variety makes the wines very fresh, smooth and generous, with a pale gold robe.

Among the largest producers of the Condrieu appellation: Guigal, Yves Cuilleron, Jean-Michel Gerin, Domaine Jamet, Domaine Rostaing ...

The best vintages of the Condrieu appellation are the wines of 1947 and 1949, the grands crus of 1961 and the excellent 1962 vintage wines. The wines of 1978 are considered to be the best of the century. Finally, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2005 and 2008 are great vintages.
