Tips for storing and preserving a bottle of wine in the best conditions

Can I open my wine bottle upon receipt? After delivery, how should I store my bottle? What should I do if I don't have a cellar?

Can I open my wine bottle upon receipt?

During transport, the wine has inevitably been in motion and the matter has been left in suspension. Wine is a living product; after being shaken, it needs time to settle. Any sediment — even more present in an older wine — must have time to settle back to the bottom of the bottle, and the wine itself must rest.

After receiving your wine, we strongly advise you to let the bottle rest for at least 48 hours before opening. The older the wine, the more time it will need. Tasting a vintage wine is, above all, a matter of patience.

Ideally, we recommend keeping the bottle undisturbed for 5 days, or more of course, before the day of opening. When placing your order, be sure to plan ahead for this delay.

After delivery, how should I store my bottle?

The storage conditions of a wine bottle before opening are just as important as the time to observe before tasting. The wine must rest in the best possible conditions, which is why the choice of location for storing the bottle must respect the following points:

Stable and cool temperature

Wine does not like thermal shocks. Low temperatures tend to preserve the wine while heat will tend to accelerate its evolution. Choose a cool place where the temperature is constant.

The objective is to allow the wine to settle, letting the matter relax. Make sure not to store the wine near a busy area or a door that is frequently opened.

If you choose to store your bottle for an indefinite period, it is essential to strictly maintain a temperature below 18 degrees and a hygrometry above 75%.

What should I do if I don't have a cellar?

Our packaging can be temporarily used as a mini cellar. It prevents thermal shocks, keeps the bottle in darkness, and protects it from any external disturbance.

It can be difficult to find a spot at home that meets all the criteria (cool and constant temperature, darkness, absence of vibrations, humidity). Among all the parameters, a cool and stable temperature will always be the priority.

The temperature in your home is lowest closest to the floor. Identify the coolest room — this is where, near the floor, the bottle should be stored. A north-facing wall, away from a heat source, inside a cool cupboard…
