The Chambertin appellation

The Chambertin appellation is an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) produced on the Chambertin climat in Gevrey-Chambertin in the Burgundy region. The origin of Chambertin comes from a peasant named Bertin, who reportedly planted his vines on a plot next to the Clos de Bèze. After this peasant's death, the plot remained named "Champ de Bertin" (Bertin's Field).

The Chambertin appellation benefits from a temperate climate with a slight continental tendency. It is one of the 9 Grands Crus of the Côte de Nuits and covers nearly 14.1 hectares of vineyard. Among the domains that produce wine under the Chambertin appellation, we find the Domaine Dugat-Py, the Domaine Trapet Père et Fils or even the Maison Leroy. The wines of the Chambertin appellation are suitable for long aging.

The best vintages of the Chambertin Grand Cru appellation are: 1928, 1929, 1934, 1937. The vintages 1945, 1947, 1949 and 1952 are excellent. Finally, 1964, 1971, 1976, 1978 and the wines from 1989, 1990, 1996, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2009 are exceptional.
