La Tâche is a French Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) that produces Burgundy grand crus. La Tâche also has a European Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) label.
Its name comes from an old Burgundian expression "faire une tâche" which meant cultivating a vineyard in exchange for a fixed remuneration. A monopoly of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti since 1993, the vineyard area is only 6 hectares. The grape variety produced there is Pinot Noir. The grape harvest, winemaking, production, and aging of the wines are carried out in the commune of Romanée-Saint-Vivant in the Burgundy region. The La Tâche grand crus are flamboyant and elegant. These wines have aromas of licorice and spices, humus and mushrooms. They are great wines that charm from their youth and improve with age. La Tâche appellation wines have excellent aging potential: 10 to 20 years on average and over 50 years for the greatest vintages.
The best vintages of the La Tâche appellation are 1937, 1971, the 1990 wines, the 1996 vintage, the 2002 vintage, and 2009. The years 1928, 1929, the 1945 vintage, 1971, 1978, and 2005 are the best vintages of the millennium.
