Our opinion on the 1900 vintage: a legendary vintage for Bordeaux wines. The Bordeaux region was blessed with perfect weather conditions throughout the year and during harvest. The wines are excellent regardless of the appellations. It is undeniably considered an excellent vintage with high yields. A great year for Sauternes which are very successful. They are rich and powerful, well-structured and excellent for aging.

However, in Burgundy, the 1900 vintage is significantly less qualitative. The region experienced several storms and heavy rains, damaging the vines and affecting grape maturation. Despite this significant damage, yields were still satisfactory and wine quality is quite good, although sometimes slightly diluted.

In Champagne, the weather was very contrasted and led to very good results. The harvest was beautiful and relatively abundant. The quality of the 1900 Champagnes is very good but a bit uneven.

The Rhône Valley is also a success that year. Dry white wines are exceptionally long-lasting.

   

Our advice for buying a 1900 wine

Among the finest successes of this vintage in red Bordeaux, we note the Château Ausone 1900, Lafite 1900, Latour 1900, Margaux 1900 and Château Léoville Las Cases 1900. For white Bordeaux, turn to the Chablis appellation.

For Sauternes from 1900, we recommend the Château Filhot 1900 and the Château d'Yquem 1900.

For vintage Champagnes from 1900, favor Krug 1900, Boizel 1900, Lanson 1900, Roederer 1900 and Ruinart 1900.
