Our opinion on the 2013 vintage: an advantageous year for Burgundy wines and sweet wines. 

In Bordeaux, unpredictable weather challenged producers. Fortunately, thanks to the châteaux's expertise, the 2013 vintage produced some interesting wines. Burgundy was also hit by unstable weather conditions. This resulted in a small and late harvest, but low yields allowed the berries to be more concentrated. The Rhône Valley generally produced better wines than in 2012. Of almost similar quality, the 2013 red wines are more balanced than the previous vintage.

Our advice for buying a 2013 wine

In Bordeaux, Saint Estèphe was one of the few appellations that benefited from a significantly drier growing season. As a result, Saint Estèphe is of superior quality and its wines are among the most successful of the 2003 Bordeaux. 

It's an excellent vintage for Sauternes, the wines are of very good quality. This is evidenced by the work of Château Guiraud 2013 with its grand vin.

In Burgundy, the wines are fresh and intensely aromatic. The whites benefit from a lively acidity but lack some depth. The reds, on the other hand, are lighter and more elegant.

We recommend the Chambolle-Musigny and Morey Saint Denis appellations, which have produced very good Burgundy wines, as well as the Domaine de la Romanée Conti.

In the Rhône region, turn to the wines from the North. The Rhône Valley shone with the Hermitage, Côte Rôtie, and Cornas appellations. The reds are fresh and pure, while the whites are more lively and aromatic.
