Our opinion on the 1944 vintage: an unsatisfactory vintage in Bordeaux but of good quality for Sauternes. The Bordeaux region enjoyed good weather until harvest time, when rain arrived. The harvest was abundant but uneven due to the rains. As a result, the wines are light, short, and for the most appealing ones, rather spicy and flavorful. Although somewhat disappointing, the 1944 vintage still offers red wines that are refined and relatively supple. Sauternes are of superior quality, despite inconsistencies in several estates. The sweet wines are generally soft and sappy, characteristics present in Château Guiraud 1944.

During this year 1944, Burgundy was liberated. The vegetation was delayed and the rains continued to fall. This resulted in a diluted and watery harvest and a poor vintage.

In the Rhône Valley, the quality of the 1944 vintage was not really impressive. However, in the southern part, some good wines were produced.
