Montirius is a wine estate in the Rhône region located in Sarrians in the south of France. With over 63 hectares of vines spread across 38 plots in the Vacqueyras, Gigondas and Côtes du Rhône appellations, Eric and Christine Saurel, the owners, have been practicing biodynamics since 1996. Their daughters Justine and Manon also work alongside their parents at the estate.

Montirius has a unique terroir that expresses itself through the estate's wines such as the "Confidentiel", "Le Clos" and "Terre des Aînés" cuvées.

At Montirius, the names of the cuvées were not chosen by chance:

  • Le Clos: A protective place of century-old oak trees surrounding the plot, a grand cru clay. The place is completely enclosed, hence its cuvée name.
  • Terre des Aînés: The "Terre des Aînés" cuvée is named as such because the large 10-hectare plot that composes it has always been given as an inheritance to the eldest of the siblings for 5 generations.
  • Confidentiel: The vineyard located in a corner of the large 10-hectare plot. "La Beaumette" gave birth to this wine. Discovered during our pre-blending tastings in 2004. This newcomer surprised the owners with its fullness, its great harmony, despite its youth. They had two choices: to make a blend identical to other years and make this gift of nature disappear, or to accept not understanding and share our discovery with Montirius enthusiasts by bottling it separately. That's how its cuvée name was born, as it is a confidence of the place.
