Our opinion on the 1934 vintage: quality wines across all regions. In the Bordeaux vineyards, the 1934 vintage was highly anticipated. A year with favorable weather conditions allowed for a large and high-quality harvest. The Bordeaux red wines are concentrated and very tannic. In Sauternes, 1934 is a very good vintage, the best since 1929. The sweet wines are complex and very pleasant to drink. In Burgundy, the summer was hot, and the harvest was early with impeccable berries. The harvest was substantial, but the quality was not always consistent. On one hand, the wines are fruity, rich and have a beautiful color. On the other hand, lower-priced wines are of inferior quality, but extremely rare.

In the southern Rhône Valley, the 1934 vintage is exceptional. The vines benefited from the summer heat, which produced very good, rich and complete wines.

In Champagne, compared to other years, it was a very good vintage. However, Houses Krug, Piper-Heidsieck and Veuve Clicquot decided not to produce a vintage wine that year.

  

Our advice for buying a 1934 wine

In this 1934 Bordeaux vintage, we recommend the Margaux, Pauillac, Pomerol, Saint Emilion, Pessac Léognan and Saint Julien appellations. The Château Cheval Blanc 1934 is rich and velvety. Other châteaux such as Mouton Rothschild 1934 and La Mission Haut Brion 1934 have also produced very good wines.

In Sauternes, the Château Suduiraut 1934, Château d'Yquem 1934 and Château d'Arche Lafaurie 1934 are exceptional.

The 1934 white wines from Burgundy are still very beautiful. We recommend the Meursault and Chablis appellations. For reds, we suggest the 1934 Clos des Lambreys and 1934 Grand-Echezeaux from Domaine de la Romanée Conti.

Regarding Champagnes, we recommend the Pommery Brut Rosé 1934, Pol Roger 1934 and Roederer 1934.
