Grands Echezeaux Appellation

The Grands Echezeaux Appellation

Since 1937, Grands Echezeaux has been an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) producing grand cru wines in Burgundy. Located between Vougeot and Vosne-Romanée, the Grands Echezeaux appellation (in the single lieu-dit Grands Echezeaux) extends the Musigny AOC to the south.

Grands Echezeaux is first and foremost an exceptional Burgundy grand cru. However, despite its name, the site is less than a third of the size of its neighbor (Echezeaux) bearing the same name. Indeed, the vineyard covers over 9 hectares, of which 5 hectares belong to the Domaine de la Romanée Conti. Other producers such as Joseph Drouhin, Gros Frère et Sœur, and Robert Sirugue share the remaining parcels of Grands Echezeaux. The wines of the Grands Echezeaux appellation, made from Pinot Noir, have a dense texture on the palate, a tight grain, and an extra touch of vinosity compared to Echezeaux appellation wines. These wines have significant aging potential: 10 to 15 years on average and up to 20 years in the greatest vintages.
