Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
I cannot think of a more profound, young red Burgundy tasted than DRC's 1990 La Tache. Although it still requires another 3-4 years of cellaring, it is incredibly endowed, with an extraordinary perfume of Asian spices as well as jammy black raspberries, cherries, and blackberries infused with smoke, toast, and dried herbs. Full-bodied, but ethereal, with layers of flavor, as well as mind-boggling delicacy and complexity.

Allen Meadow - Burghound
Tasting note: Remarkably, even at 27 years of age there is still no bricking. A stunning, highly expressive and completely classic La Tâche nose that displays almost unbelievable complexity so with many different elements that it is impossible to even begin to describe them all; the primary components include ethereal and still fresh pinot fruit, clove, knock out spiciness, anise, hoisin, soy and a trace of earth but these elements only hint at the sheer depth. The flavors are big, rich, refined, classy, penetrating and superbly powerful yet everything is in perfect balance and there is more than sufficient sève to balance off the still considerable tannins. The finish is intense, pure and so long that it is haunting; I could literally still taste this wine days later after I had it because it had such a dramatic and emotional impact. In its youth, this was one of the finest young Burgundies that I have ever been privileged to try and it only seems to get better with each passing year. For my taste, this is getting close to arriving at its peak though again I stress that this is to my taste and some may find it to already be in its sweet spot of maturation. In short, this is absolutely brilliant.

Three vintages of La Tache (1978, 1985, 1990) were tasted blind and I chose this one as my second favorite after the 1978. I have always been a big fan of this vintage of La Tache and it isn't at all that this bottle disappointed - it is a wonderful La Tache. However, the 1978, with more evolution and greater complexity and nuances acquired through time was seductive and perfect to enjoy now. I have no doubt the 1990 will also evolve to become as delicate yet powerful and persistent as the 1978 with another decade in bottle.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
This profound wine offers stunning aromatics, a palate presence that was as deep, silky and complex as any wine ever made, from anyplace! This was accompanied by an ocean of perfectly ripe fruit that filled every inch of my palate with sweet, elegant, plush fruit and ended with a finish that kept on going. This wine was off the charts! As most people know I am not a Burg guy. I've been fortunate to have been able to taste several great Burgs over the years including a few vintages of Romanee Conti. This 90 La Tache remains the best Burg I've tasted and believe it or not, one of the top wines I experienced in 2006!

Rather tawnier than the Ponsot Clos de la Roche 1990. Earthier and more autumnal on the nose than the Ponsot. Lovely delicacy but underlying violets and completeness. A little tannin evident, attractively brawny. Some jewel sensation. Seems as though it may grow in the glass. Very sweet yet earthy.

Brilliant aromas of sweet cherry, strawberry and spice herald ripe sweet fruit on the palate. It's concentrated and beginning to show some maturity as truffle and forest underbrush notes emerged over time. There's terrific balance between all the elements, followed by an excellent finish.--La Tâche non-blind vertical. Best from 2010 through 2030.

Domaine Romanée Conti
Domaine Romanée Conti

Acquired by the Prince of Conti in 1760, this 1.85-hectare vineyard produces barely more than 6000 bottles per year of a mythical and exceptional wine. After the French Revolution, the Domaine was declared national property, and Romanée Conti had numerous owners, notably the Duvault-Blochet family, who acquired several other parcels including La Tâche, Richebourg, and Echézeaux. Today, each bottle of Romanée Conti bears the dual signature of Aubert de Villaine and Henry-Frédéric Roch. Romanée Conti was the last vineyard plot in Burgundy to resist phylloxera, but during World War II, the lack of carbon disulfide led to its destruction in 1945. For five years, from 1946 to 1951, no vintage was produced. The winemaking and aging conditions (maximum fruit maturity, very high selectivity, maximum precautions at each step, aging in new oak) allow for the production of an exceptional wine. Thus, aromas of magnificent complexity evoking rose, violet, spices, truffle, and leather are found in this sumptuous wine. Everything at Domaine Romanée Conti is implemented to produce only great wines for aging. Biodynamics has taken on a different role over the past decade under the new leadership of Henry Frédéric-Roch, one of the two co-managers of Domaine Romanée Conti along with Aubert de Villaine. All the appellations offered are at the pinnacle of elegance and depth. The owner of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, one of the most renowned vineyards in the world, was elected Decanter Man of The Year 2010 by the eponymous specialized journal. It's a small revolution in the hierarchy of lucky winners as Aubert de Villaine is the first Burgundy wine producer to receive this award since its creation. Modest, it seems he initially refused his award, before reconsidering and finally accepting it. Co-owner of the family estate of Romanée-Conti with the Leroy family, Aubert de Villaine long hesitated before following in his father's footsteps. After studying law and literature, he flew to New York and began his career by importing Burgundy wines. Passionate about wine, he also took up journalism and interviewed, among others, Robert Mondavi in 1966. It was during this period that his father called him to his side. He started as an apprentice at the estate. Since then, he has never ceased to put his dedication, passion, and exacting standards at the service of Romanée-Conti, which continues to produce the greatest red wines in the world.
