The history of Petit Village

The history of Château Petit Village in Pomerol, France, dates back to the 17th century. It is likely that a first wine estate was created at this location during this period, but no trace remains. The current château was built in the 18th century by the Tour du Pin family, who were noble family from the region.

The château was originally a rectangular building with two corner towers. It was modified over the centuries, particularly in the 19th century, when the Tour du Pin family added a neoclassical wing. The château was used as a residence by the lords of Tour du Pin until the early 20th century.

In 1919, Château Petit Village was purchased by Fernand Ginestet, a renowned wine merchant in Bordeaux. Ginestet modernized the estate and began producing quality wines. Château Petit Village quickly became one of the most prestigious wine estates in Pomerol.

In 1989, Château Petit Village was acquired by Axa Millésimes, an investment portfolio management company. Axa Millésimes continued the modernization of the estate and invested in research and development. Château Petit Village is now one of the most sought-after wines from Pomerol.

The terroir of Château Petit Village is located on the highest part of the Pomerol plateau. It consists of deep gravels, wrapped in light clay and sandy soils on an alios subsoil. This terroir is favorable for the production of high-quality red wines, with intense aromas and silky tannins.
