Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Caramel, smoke, stone, blackberry, plum and cherry notes lead to a primary wine that offers all the right stuff. But it's a long way from maturity and demands time in the cellar.

Jancis Robinson November - 2012
Jancis Robinson
Dark layered crimson. Graphite and minerally nose that seemed almost Rhône-like. Very dry finish. Still youthful with quite sweet fruit. After 24 hours the nose was not that fresh but there was certainly substance there. This was the most ‘modern’ of this range. Slightly drying on the end. It seemed worthy only of 17 on the second night.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
In many respects, the 2002 may be even more impressive than the 2003. A far more challenging vintage to get everything right, and especially in St.-Emilion, where many disappointments have been produced, this is one of the wines of the vintage and (along with Pavie) among the finest wines from the Right Bank. It possesses a deep purple color as well as a gorgeous nose of creme de cassis, blackberries, wet stones, and wonderfully perfumed floral notes. When the wine hits the palate, it exhibits impressive purity, medium to full body, a multi-layered texture, and extraordinary precision and intensity with a finish just short of 50 seconds

Jean-Marc Quarin September - 2021
Jean-Marc Quarin
Dark colour, of medium and evolved intensity. Moderately aromatic nose, with ripe fruitiness, smelling of strawberry. Soft on the attack, suave in development, with a body of meticulous texture and a hint of wood and bitterness on the finish, the wine stretches slightly austere, but flavourful.

Château Ausone
Château Ausone

Château Ausone produces grand cru Bordeaux wines with the Saint Emilion appellation in the south of France. This estate is one of the 4 châteaux to benefit from the classification of Premier Grand Cru Classé A along with Châteaux Angelus, Cheval Blanc and Pavie.

The 7-hectare vineyard is located on the slopes of Saint-Emilion. Built on the site of the villa of the Latin poet Ausonius, the estate benefits from a south-facing exposure, terraced vineyards, and a balanced and very old grape variety composition. The cellar, carved into the rock, is extraordinary. It has undergone extensive work to reinforce the solidity of the structure. As for the wines, known to take time to assert themselves, they are dense, intense, and have an aromatic complexity that allows Ausone to rank among the very top estates in Bordeaux. The main grape varieties are Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with a majority of 55% Cabernet Franc.

Among the greatest vintages of Château Ausone, the 1982 and 1983 vintages are excellent. The 1995 vintage, 1998 grand cru wine and the 2008 wines are exceptional. Finally, the 2000 grand crus classés and the 2005 vintage are considered extraordinary vintages, with the grand crus even receiving a score of 100/100 from Robert Parker.
