Dark color, medium intensity and slightly evolved. Intense, fruity and rather fine nose. Beginning of an evolved bouquet. On swirling, more complex and integrated nuances of truffle, coffee and tar appear. Smooth on the attack, very aromatic in the mid-palate, juicy, the wine offers nobility in the texture, on a medium body and a juicy finish still slightly tannic (too much wood), of normal length.

Touches of reduction on the first moments, with dominant confident tannins that fill out through the mid palate even while they close things down on the finish. This is an architectural wine, it reflects the terroir and reminds me once again that I never really understood Troplong until I had walked the vineyards and seen the clay that sits over the limestone. As it opens, salty cracker salinity comes in, a signature of Troplong, and this is ready to drink, although still with a good decade or more ahead of it. As ever, under the previous owners, I feel Troplong does better in the slightly more challenging years, when nature reins in the excess but the excellence of the site still speaks. 100% new oak, Michel Rolland consultant.

Château Troplong-Mondot produces great wines under the Saint-Emilion AOC. It is classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé B in the Saint Emilion classification. The vineyard covers 33 hectares of vines. The Château Troplong-Mondot grape variety composition consists of 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, and yields do not exceed 50 hl/ha. The vines have an average age of 35 years.

With great aging potential, the wines are distinguished by their concentration and complexity. Since 1985, Château Troplong Mondot has produced a second wine called: Mondot.
