Wine Enthusiast January - 2016
Wine Enthusiast
This is a fabulous wine from the greatest Champagne vintage so far this century. Still young, it blends almost equal amounts of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay fleshed out with Pinot Meunier. The minerality and the rich apple and green fruits are balanced, and acidity cuts into the wine with a pure, perfumed line of freshness. The wine could be drunk now, but it will age well into the the 2020s.

Falstaff June - 2020
Falstaff
Medium golden yellow, silvery shimmer, very delicate perlage. Aroma of orange marmalade, white flowers, a subtly nutty undertone of biscuits, a multifaceted, well-developed bouquet. Substantial texture, fresh yellow fruit, fine and balanced, notes of floral honey, some peach, appears incredibly youthful, fine caramel, delicate dried fruits, very, very long finish, juicy and invigorating. Great length, promising aging potential, nothing less than a perfect champagne.

Definitely more youthful with probably more potential than its pair (the 2004) but it's very tricky to guess the vintage. Hint of veginess and punch. Very long indeed. A real peacock’s tail on the finish. Impressive.

Jean-Marc Quarin September - 2018

Pale yellow color. Intense, fine, fruity nose, finely buttery and without extravagance. Full on the attack, juicy on the development, particularly aromatic in the mid-palate, the wine develops complexity on a refined texture. It takes flight in the final part of the mouth, long and impossible to spit out. Bravo!

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Krug's 2002 Brut has an intense citrus color and opens with a generous, intense yet fine and precise bouquet that indicates great depth and elegance. Red fruit flavors on the nose lead to a generously rich yet pure, highly refined and elegant palate, with lots of ripe cherry fruits and delicious yeasty flavors. This is a highly complex and tensioned but beautifully balanced 2002 with a charming dosage that gives perfect roundness. The finish, however, is clear, fresh and well-structured, if not taut, and very mineral. Tasted in Reims in April 2018.

Krug

Champagne Krug is a Champagne house based in Reims for over 160 years. The Krug house was established in 1843 by Johann-Joseph Krug, originally from Mainz (under French rule - see: History of Mainz). It now belongs to the luxury group LVMH. It is managed by Rémi Krug, representing the fifth generation, and by cellar master Éric Lebel.

Among the main techniques used is vinification in wood in small 205-liter barrels made from Argonne forest oak. Averaging 35 years old, the barrels are repaired by the house's coopers and reused from year to year. According to the cellar master: "The longevity of our champagnes is intimately linked to their time spent in barrels." Krug champagnes are only marketed when mature; in 2005, the 1990 vintage was delivered. For some champagnes, the house releases even older vintages kept for longer periods, such as the 1981 vintage which was disgorged and marketed in 2006 with less than 2,000 bottles under the Krug Collection label.
