Sleek and pretty, with floral, mint and plum aromas and flavors and lovely, silky tannins.

Jean-Marc Quarin January - 2005

It has notes of old Burgundy that the English call "chicken shit". Very reduced, it needs to be decanted. The palate is distinguished by a mellow and rather aromatic character. The flavors of cedar and smoke, typical of Cabernet Sauvignon, follow one another. The wine finishes long, very good and already melted. It is ready to drink. However, its final structure remains imprecise. Blind tasting, I considered that if it was a good wine, it could not be a great wine. It has the advantage of being very open at the moment.

Decanted for an hour. Still fresh looking, a bit rusty at the rim. In the nose, there are hints of meat broth, but they are in the background, no more fruit left, maybe some dried blackcurrant, pencil shavings, leather, earth. In the mouth, it's a tad rustic in its tannic profile, but the texture is good, leather again, some black pepper. Drinks really well.

This is fully mature. With a light berry and spice nose, this medium bodied wine does not compete with the level of quality being produced at the property today. As a matter of style, this traditionally made wine is slightly austere and lacks the freshness, as well as the ripeness and deoth offered in current vintages from 2000 on.

This wine is starting to decline with fruit that is starting to dry out. Hint of sweet dried fruits and herbs on the palate. Fairly weak middle with short finish.

Château Branaire Ducru
Château Branaire Ducru

Château Branaire Ducru is a fourth growth classified (official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification) from the Saint-Julien appellation in Médoc. The vineyard covers nearly 60 hectares of vines. Château Branaire-Ducru is now one of the jewels of Saint Julien. It is highly sought after for its very pure red fruit. Its typical composition, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, opens with bright aromas of raspberry and blackberry, before becoming more complex on the palate with delicate nuances of mineral, pencil lead, smoke and spring flowers... The Château also produces a second wine: Duluc de Branaire Ducru.

The best vintages of Château Branaire Ducru are 1975, 1982 grand cru wines, 1989, the 1995 vintage and the 1996 vintage. The wines from 2000, 2001, 2003 vintage and 2005 are also exceptional. Finally, the grand crus from 2009, 2010 vintage and the 2015 vintage are great vintages.
