Château Batailley
Château Batailley is a wine estate in Bordeaux. In the Pauillac AOC, it is classified as a 5th Classified Growth in the official 1855 Médoc wine classification. This classified growth is one of the jewels of the Castéja family and Borie-Manoux. The name of this property comes from the word 'Bataille' (battle) and refers to the battles that took place in 1453 on the vineyards and the Château. This was during the Hundred Years' War. The vineyard covers nearly 60 hectares and the grape varieties consist of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, all typical of Pauillac appellation wines. The Château also produces a second wine called 'Lions de Batailley' and a third wine 'Pauillac de Batailley'.
For tasting or gifting, we recommend Château Batailley 1959, Château Batailley 1982. The 2000 and 2009 vintages are excellent. Finally, the Château Batailley 1995 and Batailley 2005 are particularly exceptional.
