Médoc Classification - 3rd Classified Growth

The third growths of Médoc belong to the 1855 classification which was established in 1855. This classification, which has slightly evolved over time (Château Mouton Rothschild was promoted in 1973 from second growth to first growth) is still used as a reference today.


All red wines in the classification are from Médoc, except for Château Haut Brion from Pessac-Léognan, and are classified into 5 categories ranging from first growths to fifth growths.
The 3rd growths of 1855 include 14 châteaux. Among them are Château Marquis d'Alesme, Château Malescot Saint Exupery, Château Giscours, Château La Lagune, Château Boyd Cantenac, Château d'Issan, Château Kirwan, Château Lagrange, Château Palmer, Château Calon-Ségur, Château Cantenac Brown...
