Jancis Robinson March - 2011

Light but very complete nose. Absolutely classic claret with nothing out of place. All very succulent but dry rather than sweet. I can’t see how anyone could be disappointed by this, unless they didn’t understand red bordeaux at all. To drink between: 2010 to 2025.

Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
Sweet damson fruit with a touch of butterscotch, tobacco leaf and cigar box coming through as it opens. Archetypal St Julien, with finesse and elegance, fine tannins, just a storming wine that you will want to share. A vintage that is proving hugely successful in St Julien right now, as I found with a recent tasting of Gruaud Larose, really suggesting that these 2001s are in a sweet spot – although no great rush to drink up.

La Revue du Vin de France
Magazine RVF Very precise and well-defined, with sap and tension. The substance is beautiful and straightforward.

This has developed quite nicely with its tobacco, smoke, cigar box, blackberry and cedar wood personality. The tannins are ripe, the fruit is ample and fresh, finish with a spicy, cassis and pomegranate note. While fun to taste now, this will get better with a few more years in the bottle.

Tom Cannavan January - 2003

Already fat with toasty, coffee-bean oak influence. Beneath is a lovely perfume of bright cassis and raspberry, with hints of violet and dark chocolate. Concentrated, rich palate, clamped by serious tannins, but big, sweet, svelte and spicy fruit pushes through. A bit of a blockbuster style, and very good.

Lots of floral, berry and raspberry character on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a fresh finish. Lovely wine. Round and refined.

Château Lagrange
Château Lagrange

Château Lagrange, a Grand Cru Classé in 1855 located in the western part of the Saint-Julien appellation in the heart of the Médoc wine region. The Château produces 3 wines. The blending of the red wines, which both benefit from the Saint-Julien appellation, leads to the differentiation between the Grand Vin "CHATEAU LAGRANGE", generally produced from old vines with an average age of over 30 years, and the Second Wine "LES FIEFS DE LAGRANGE", which comes from younger vines. The dry white wine with Bordeaux appellation "LES ARUMS DE LAGRANGE" is one of the estate's curiosities. Its production is very limited and represents no more than three percent of the total production.
