Fine aging notes, although somewhat blurry. Cherry and red currant fruit, fresh in character. Dried herbs. The fresh style transports well to the palate, although aromatic intensity there was lacking and tannin felt pretty dry. A rare instance of the ’93 being in better shape than the ‘83.

Bright red color, with dark nuances. Nose: Ethyl 4 Phenol (horse sweat) but this vintage is less marked than other wines from the property. Very fruity behind with an herbal tea note. Soft attack developing on a slightly flowing structure, very fruity, which evolves caressingly, on a medium body, towards a finish with already melted tannicity, full of charm and aromas. Good sapid persistence. A note of class in this tannic grain.

Château Calon Segur

Château Calon-Ségur is a 94-hectare wine estate located in Saint-Estèphe on the left bank of the Gironde. Third growth (1855 Official Médoc Wine Classification) of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, the grand vin is often recognizable by its label. The estate's grape varieties consist of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc with vines averaging 40 years of age. Calon-Ségur wine is generally considered one of the most powerful and full-bodied wines of the Saint-Estèphe appellation.

The estate also produces a second wine Marquis de Calon Segur and a cru bourgeois Capbern Gasqueton. The best vintages of Château Calon-Ségur are 1982, 1988, the 1995 vintage as well as the 1996 wines and the 2000 vintage. Finally, the 2003 vintage, 2005, 2009 wines, 2010 and 2014 are excellent.
