The deep ruby-colored 1991 exhibits a tight, old-fashioned, rustic bouquet of leather, cedar, tea, and ripe berry fruit, adequate body, a tight structure, and fine depth. I would not be surprised to see it improve with 3-4 years of cellaring.

Château Calon-Ségur is a 94-hectare wine estate located in Saint-Estèphe on the left bank of the Gironde. Third growth (1855 Official Médoc Wine Classification) of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, the grand vin is often recognizable by its label. The estate's grape varieties consist of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc with vines averaging 40 years of age. Calon-Ségur wine is generally considered one of the most powerful and full-bodied wines of the Saint-Estèphe appellation.
The estate also produces a second wine Marquis de Calon Segur and a cru bourgeois Capbern Gasqueton. The best vintages of Château Calon-Ségur are 1982, 1988, the 1995 vintage as well as the 1996 wines and the 2000 vintage. Finally, the 2003 vintage, 2005, 2009 wines, 2010 and 2014 are excellent.
