Tasting notes: In July and August, the vines are monitored very carefully, tailor-made, to compensate for the unfavourable weather conditions at the start of summer. The very fine weather in September offers superb ripening conditions: flavours and aromas develop, tannins are refined. Tastings reveal very deep colours, beautiful fruit aromas with mineral notes and silky, fresh textures. The finish is long and pure.

Grape variety/Blend: Merlot (62%), Cabernet Franc (38%) (variations are possible from one vintage to another)

Ageing: Oaked

Maturity: 2015 - 2030

Food and Wine Pairing: Beef and venison

Intense colour. Black fruit on the nose accompanied by vanilla notes. Smooth, fleshy palate structured by solid tannins. Refreshing finish with traces of tobacco.

Jean-Marc Quarin January - 2011

Intense dark color is beautiful. Fruity, fresh, ripe and liquorice nose with nuances of hazelnuts and truffles. Nice wine very melting in the mouth, with a pronounced taste of liquorice, flowers and truffles. Good build. Refined tannicity followed by good length and a character impossible to spit. It is superb.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Angelus has a really quite wonderful bouquet with dark cherries, crushed strawberry, hints of orange blossom and cedar that contain much more energy than many of its peers. The palate is very crisp and nicely structured on the entry. The acidity is very well judged, and there is a sense of effortless charm in the silky smooth, lightly spiced finish. Everything here is just ticking along nicely. Excellent. Tasted February 2017.

Château Angelus
Château Angelus

Château Angelus was promoted Premier Grand Cru Classé A of Saint-Emilion in 2012 (previously it was 1st Grand Cru Classé B since 1954). He shares the head of the Saint Emilion wine classification with Ausone, Cheval Blanc and Pavie.

The vineyard of Château Angelus is located on the foot of coast, a steep hillside facing south. The clay-limestone soil rests on a calcareous base. The grape variety is composed of about 51% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. In some years as in 2003, the share of Cabernet Franc even exceeds that of Merlot! Mature wine 18 to 22 months in new barrels. Since 2018, the castle Angelus initiates its conversion to Bio which should be completed in 2023.

The greatest vintages of Château Angelus are 1988, the 1989 vintage wines, 1990, 1993, 1994.
