Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
It remains a very pleasant, fully mature Saint Emilion that needs to be consumed sooner rather than later. It has a Burgundian bouquet, a little diffuse with scents of field mushroom, light red berries and sous-bois. The palate displays fine definition but is beginning to run out of puff. There is a sight sharpness on the entry, chalky tannins with a smooth finish that lacks a little depth. Fine for the vintage.

Very concentrated, with plum and cassis character and a hint of nuts. It's full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and loads of coffee and fruit on the finish.

Jancis Robinson October - 2011

Magnum. 45% Cabernet Franc, 55% Merlot. De Boüard’s first vintage, and already aged on the lees. Sweet and rather gorgeous and with some freshness. Kerpow! There is a bit of decay but also liquorice.

Château Angelus
Château Angelus

Château Angelus was promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé A of Saint-Emilion in 2012 (previously it had been 1er Grand Cru Classé B since 1954). It shares the top of the Saint-Emilion Wine classification with Châteaux Ausone, Cheval Blanc and Pavie.

The Château Angelus vineyard is located on the hillside, a steep south-facing slope. The clay-limestone soil rests on a limestone base. The grape variety consists of approximately 51% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. In certain years such as 2003, the proportion of Cabernet Franc even exceeds that of Merlot! The wine matures for 18 to 22 months in new barrels. Since 2018, Château Angelus has initiated its conversion to organic farming which should be completed in 2023.

The greatest vintages of the château are Angelus 1988, Angelus 1989, Angelus 1990, Angelus 1993, Angelus 1994, Angelus 2000 and Angelus 2001.
