1988 PAVILLON ROUGE du Château Margaux 1988

Marked by a very mild winter and a wet spring, this year the harvest was carried out in excellent conditions.
Pavillon Rouge 1988 from Château Margaux has a classic balance, with a beautiful tannic structure and a lot of elegance. The aging in bottles of this second wine gave it a smoothness and a form of sweetness that it lacked in its youth. This wine is to be drunk now, it will probably not be expected any longer.

Cellar Tracker January - 2015

The wine pours a ruby, tawny color with very long legs. Surprisingly for a wine this age, there is minimal bricking at the edges. The first thing that comes to mind is the concentration of the bouquet. On the nose is a focused, powerful yet elegant melange of soy sauce, floral notes, strawberries, truffles and burnished leather and sous bois. Great extraction. On the palate, the wine is unctuous and thick with a mineral backbone. The sharpness of alcohol and rustic tannins are still there. Definitely old school Bordeaux style. Flavors of soy sauce, preserved plums, kirsch, mint, blackberries and mushrooms come to the fore. Finish is of medium length, lasting around twenty seconds or so. The ending is quite complex with a tad of fat.

Jean-Marc Quarin October - 1995

Red. Dark. Average intensity. Evolved. Net. Average intensity. Pretty late. Fruity and floral. Touch a little vegetal. Soft attack, developing on a structure of straight form to the touch of fine mouth. The evolution is sweet in the middle of the mouth then will stiffen in the final, on austere tannins even if they are aromatic. Good persistence. This wine can be tasted, but will still be kept. No doubt it will always be lacking in the tannin coating of maturity better accomplished and that it will keep a slight dryness.

Château Margaux

Château Margaux is one of the largest wine estates in Bordeaux. In AOC, Margaux appears in the first classified growths of the official classification of Médoc wines of 1855.

If it is a privilege to bear the name of its Margaux appellation, there is no doubt that Château Margaux does it great honor.

For several centuries, this Premier Cru Classé has expressed to the highest degree the exceptional qualities of terroirs patiently brought together by several generations of owners. Maintained and harvested exclusively by hand with extreme care, the 78 hectares of vines (75% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Cabernet-Franc and Petit-Verdot) draw their richness very deeply from the soil. clayey-gravelly, particularly dense and thick.

Fermentation in oak vats, after which the wine is strictly selected, is followed by 18 to 24 months of aging in new oak barrels. A masterpiece among the Bordeaux wines, the best according to some, Château Margaux reveals finesse and opulence, depth and complexity on tasting, and develops a bouquet of rare elegance of rose, violet, black fruits, under -taut by tight tannins that require patient aging before blossoming. The château also produces a second wine, Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, and a dry white wine, Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux (100% Sauvignon Blanc).

Best vintages of Château Margaux are : 1900, 1928, 1953, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1989, 1990
