CHÂTEAU MARGAUX 1969

Tasting Notes: The grapes were really washed out by the heavy, almost continuous rainfall in September. Of course, they could not reach a proper level of ripeness. 1969 is a small, mediocre wine, already fallen into the oblivion of history.

Grape Variety/Blend: Cabernet Sauvignon (~75%), Merlot (~20%), Petit Verdot (~3%), Cabernet Franc (~2%) (variations are possible from one vintage to another)

Aging: 18 to 24 months in new oak barrels

Maturity: Aged wine

Food Pairing: Beef and game (deer, venison, wild boar), Pauillac lamb, Ceps (Risotto, pan-fried, omelet), Aged cheeses

Château Margaux
Château Margaux

Château Margaux is one of the most prestigious estates in the Margaux appellation and a major historical figure of Bordeaux excellence. Classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in the official 1855 classification, the château draws on a terroir of fine, deep gravels that promotes the expression of a wine of rare elegance and great aromatic complexity.

Le Grand Vin de Château Margaux has been recognized since the 17th century as one of the most accomplished expressions of the Bordeaux vineyard. Its qualities stem from the combination of an exceptional terroir, demanding viticulture, and a winemaking approach oriented toward precision and balance. Silky tannins, aromatic depth, freshness, and length on the palate are the defining hallmarks of the Margaux style.

The great vintages mark its history, from the 1953 wine, then the 1982 vintage to the 1990 and the 2000 vintage, up to the 2015, considered one of the estate's recent peaks. Le Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, the second wine, offers a more immediate interpretation. These illustrate the estate's ability to produce wines of great complexity, capable of evolving harmoniously over several decades while retaining a remarkable expression of their terroir.
