CHÂTEAU MARGAUX 1948

Tasting note: The wine has not left much more traces than the climatic conditions in which it was born. A bottle tasted in March 2018 nevertheless proved to be excellent. Despite its cloudy color, the nose is ripe, very complex and surprising. The palate was pleasant and the acidity, undoubtedly a little aggressive in its youth, now brings a beautiful freshness and remarkably lengthens the finish. However, it deteriorates quickly in the glass and should therefore not be decanted or only at the very last moment before being served.

Grape variety / Blend: Cabernet sauvignon (~75%), merlot (~20%), petit verdot (~3%), cabernet franc (~2%) (variations are possible from one vintage to another)

Aging: 18 to 24 months in new oak barrels

Maturity: ( - 2026) - At its peak

Food and Wine Pairing: Beef and game (deer, roe deer, wild boar) Pauillac lamb, Ceps (Risotto, pan-fried, omelette) Mature cheeses

Château Margaux
Château Margaux

Château Margaux is one of the greatest wine estates in Bordeaux. In AOC, Margaux is listed among the First Growth wines in the official 1855 Médoc classification.

If it is a privilege to bear the name of its Margaux appellation, there is no doubt that Château Margaux does great honor to it.

For several centuries, this Premier Cru Classé has expressed to the highest degree the exceptional qualities of terroirs patiently gathered by several generations of owners. Maintained and harvested exclusively by hand with extreme care, the 78 hectares of vines (75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) draw their richness very deeply from a particularly dense and thick clay-gravel soil.

Fermentation in oak vats, after which the wine is strictly selected, is followed by 18 to 24 months of aging in new oak barrels. A masterpiece among Bordeaux wines, considered by some to be the best, Château Margaux reveals finesse and opulence, depth and complexity in tasting, and develops a bouquet of rare elegance with notes of rose, violet, and black fruits, underpinned by tight tannins that require patient aging before reaching their full potential. The château also produces a second wine, Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, and a dry white wine, Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux (100% Sauvignon Blanc).

The greatest vintages of Château Margaux are: 1900, 1928, 1953, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1989, 1990
