Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The prodigious 1999 Ermitage Le Pavillon boasts creme de cassis aromatics intermixed with unmistakable aromas of ink. It is full-bodied and fabulously concentrated as well as powerful, with a finish that lasts for fifty seconds. This saturated black/purple-colored 1999 exhibits remarkable symmetry, purity, and overall massive size all juxtaposed with a sense of elegance and restraint. It is a monumental achievement, but ultimately is less successful than the great 1998 or 2000.

Jean-Marc Quarin November - 2002
Jean-Marc Quarin
Dark red color. Good intensity. Lively. Beautiful. Nose of medium intensity. Fruity. Cocoa-like. Almost smoky. Ripe. Lovely. When swirled, a fine touch of soot. Great maturity evidently. Supple and fleshy attack, developing with a fine mouthfeel and a remarkable fresh taste combined with licorice. Slow melting tannic evolution, on good density but no more. Superbly enveloped tannicity in the finish, ending on aromas this time more complex and distinguished. It is delicious and above all refined, enough to make Bordeaux wines pale in comparison.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
As this creeps closer to its 20th birthday, the wine has added a lot of depth, volume and complexity. The nose moves from earthy, smoky fruit to crushed rock and stone with a few hours of air. Concentrated, deep and long, the fruit is fresh and vibrant, cutting a nice line on your palate, with its balance between density, fruit and acidity. Having had older Chapoutier Pavillon vintages, 5-10 more years will make this even better! 95 Point

M. Chapoutier
M. Chapoutier
Since 1808, the Chapoutier name has existed in the Rhone Valley. The distant ancestor Polydor Chapoutier was the first to start buying vineyards, thus moving from being a winemaker of an estate to becoming a winegrower, wine producer and merchant. The pioneering spirit was already inscribed in the family. Since 1990, Michel, in his forties, has been at the head of an exceptional vineyard. A land rich in history and traditions. Passionate about the expression of soils, Michel gives his convictions the means to flourish. Breaking choices, to succeed in synthesizing the past with his own audacity. History of time. As it goes for each element of nature. Time and earth. The roots, the vine and the fruit. From there was born all the richness and generosity of Maison M. Chapoutier.
