CHÂTEAU MARGAUX 2001

The very rainy winter accelerated flowering. The summer was characterized by an unusual alternation of hot and cool, dry and wet periods. As a result, the growth of the grapes was favored and the ripening slowed down. The harvest took place late, but in good weather.
Château Margaux 2001 is a beautiful wine. A vintage quite similar to the 1999 vintage. Tender and harmonious in tasting, Château Margaux will delight lovers of great wines. To be tasted now or kept for another 15 to 20 years to reveal the full aromatic bouquet that these years of cellaring will be able to deliver.

(5-2009). Dark color, good intensity, slightly evolved. Fine nose, fruity, smoky, with hints of coffee. As opposed to wine before, for lack of spice, it seems "cold". Superb entry into fresh mouth. The wine develops particularly aromatic and bursting with great taste in. Good build, a bit oaky, it ends on a sweet tannicité and a general profile charmer.

(3-2004). Subtle and very perfumed with floral, currants, minerals and berry aromas with a hint of toasted barrels. Medium- to full-bodied, with an outstandingly refined core of fruit and smoky, earthy, berry and almost meaty character. It's long and caressing. Could use a bit more fruit to be up with the other first-growths.

(6-2004). Performing well from bottle, Chateau Margaux’s 2001, which is somewhat reminiscent of both the 1985 and 1999, is an elegant, seamlessly constructed effort with a deep rubypurple color, and a beautiful nose of flowers, creme de cassis, blackberries, and cedar. A blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, and 4% Cabernet Franc, this forward, opulent beauty can be drunk now or cellared for 15-20 years. This is one of the most elegant wines of the vintage.

Mid ruby. Great depth and richness and complexity – and yet this manages to be racy and delicate too. Real lift and freshness – thoroughbred stuff. The hedonistic fruit cunningly disguises what is still a heavy charge of tannin. Great persistence. A haunting wine.

Château Margaux

Château Margaux is one of the largest wine estates in Bordeaux. In AOC, Margaux appears in the first classified growths of the official classification of Médoc wines of 1855.

If it is a privilege to bear the name of its Margaux appellation, there is no doubt that Château Margaux does it great honor.

For several centuries, this Premier Cru Classé has expressed to the highest degree the exceptional qualities of terroirs patiently brought together by several generations of owners. Maintained and harvested exclusively by hand with extreme care, the 78 hectares of vines (75% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Cabernet-Franc and Petit-Verdot) draw their richness very deeply from the soil. clayey-gravelly, particularly dense and thick.

Fermentation in oak vats, after which the wine is strictly selected, is followed by 18 to 24 months of aging in new oak barrels. A masterpiece among the Bordeaux wines, the best according to some, Château Margaux reveals finesse and opulence, depth and complexity on tasting, and develops a bouquet of rare elegance of rose, violet, black fruits, under -taut by tight tannins that require patient aging before blossoming. The château also produces a second wine, Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, and a dry white wine, Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux (100% Sauvignon Blanc).

Best vintages of Château Margaux are : 1900, 1928, 1953, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1989, 1990
