Still a youngster, the blockbuster 1995 Ermitage le Pavillon is a quintessential Hermitage in every way. Full-bodied, powerful, thick and unctuous, with tons of smoky, black, black fruits, tar, saddle leather and peppery herbs, this perfect wine is massively concentrated, rich and stacked, with masses of ripe tannin hiding under its still lively and fresh fruit. And while it’s a brilliant drink today, it’s still not yet fully mature. This tour de Force beauty will see its 50th birthday in fine form!

Intensely concentrated, powerful, tannic, fresh and lively, with a wall of fruit and a nose that combines ripe fruits, earth, smoke, thyme and mint, 3 hours of decanting was not enough. Founded in 1808 in Tain-l'Hermitage, the house of M. Chapoutier is today the leading owner of the Hermitage hill. Since 1990, Michel Chapoutier has cultivated the vines using biodynamic farming and bottles separately the great named plots of the hillside — Le Pavillon, L'Ermite, Le Méal — as single-parcel selections of syrah and marsanne. Since 1996, each label has carried the wine's name in Braille, as a tribute to Maurice Monier de la Sizeranne.

Among the house's great vintages, the 1989 vintage and the 1990 rank among the pinnacles of Hermitage, while the 2003, the 2009 and the 2021 vintage continue this standard of excellence across more recent years. These are wines with exceptional aging potential, to be decanted and served with roasted meat or game.
