Appellation Pomerol

The Pomerol appellation covers 735 hectares in the vineyards of Bordeaux, west of Saint-Emilion. At Pomerol, the estates are very small in size but great in quality. Unlike the Grands Crus of Médoc or Saint-Emilion, Pomerol wines have no official classification. However, the market has placed Petrus at the top of the ‘unofficial‘ ranking. Other great Châteaux include L’Eglise ClinetL’EvangileLa Fleur-PétrusLafleur, Le Pin, TrotanoyVieux Château Certan... The Merlot dominates to 80%, it brings richness and roundness to the wines. The nature of the soils is variable: with clay plateaus dotted with gravel to the west, soils are increasingly sandy moving east. It seems that the subsoil, made up of iron dirt, is at the origin of the peculiar character of Pomerol wines. A nose on the violet and the truffle, a powerful mouth, robust while having a finesse and silky remarkable. Although they may be young, Pomerol have an excellent ability to age.
