Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
From barrel, this remains one of the greatest wines I have ever tasted. Whether fining and filtration pulled more out of it than was intended, only the proprietor knows. However, the 1982 Petrus turned in a strong performance in Philadelphia in contrast to other tastings when it has been less than spectacular. The color reveals some amber at the edge. A sweet nose of caramel, roasted herbs, cherry jam, cedar, and smoke is followed by a thick, full-bodied, unctuously-textured, low acid Petrus that is approaching full maturity.

A bottle bought from Edmund Penning-Rowsell's cellar. Lovely and sweet - very fleshy. Much more structured than the 1990s (Latour and Cheval) just served, also blind. Denser than the Mouton 1982. Very, very easy to like.

(6-2001) Dark ruby garnet. Intense tobacco, cedar, berry and blackberry. Full-bodied, silky, firm and fresh. Long. A beauty. One of the best bottles I have ever had.

Jean-Marc Quarin November - 2006
Jean-Marc Quarin
Dark red and evolved color. Intense nose, still fruity, animal, becoming truffled when aerated in a decanter. Touch of spice and caramel. But it is especially when swirled that it takes flight, becomes very intense and complex with a creamy nuance. The entry on the palate is of great softness. Silky, the wine glides, very spicy, very fruity and powerful. It finishes severe, long and noble. Great length on cedar flavors and a hint of orange. A delight. To drink before 2025. The tasting took place after 1 hour 30 minutes of decanting in a carafe.

(4-1997) Bouquet fully evolved and justly deserving about every praise one could heap upon it.

Petrus

Petrus is one of the most emblematic and sought-after wines of the Pomerol appellation, occupying a special place in the Bordeaux wine landscape. Unlike the great classified growths of the Médoc, Pomerol has no official classification, but Pétrus has established itself over time as the absolute reference of the appellation, recognized for the singularity of its terroir and the exceptional consistency of its wines.

The Petrus vineyard rests on a unique plateau of clay-ferruginous soils, dominated by a high proportion of blue clay, rare in Bordeaux. This terroir gives the wines a dense structure, remarkable depth and an immediately recognizable identity. The grape variety is almost exclusively composed of Merlot, a grape that finds here an expression of rare intensity.

The international renown of Petrus was built in the 20th century, notably under the impetus of remarkable figures who shaped its style and reputation. Petrus wines are distinguished by their richness, silky texture and exceptional aging potential. Among the emblematic vintages Petrus 1961, Petrus 1982, Petrus 1989, Petrus 1990, Petrus 2000, Petrus 2005, Petrus 2009, Petrus 2010, Petrus 2011, Petrus 2016, Petrus 2017, Petrus 2018, regularly cited among the greatest wines of Bordeaux.
