Full-bodied, rich, spicy and fantastically concentrated, the palate has compelling freshness and a solid base of wonderfully ripe, velvety tannins, finishing very long and opulent. The aromatics at this youthful stage are atypical for Petrus and quite stunning—this 2017 is a bombshell! Furthermore, it is a unique style for this estate and one avid collectors should seek out!

Dark ruby red with violet reflections and a narrow pale rim. Intense black berry fruit with hints of juniper and licorice, smoky-spicy background, black cherry and mandarin peel. On the palate, substantially pronounced fruit with silky texture, fine nougat and saline minerality notes, candied violet and also velvety. Ripe fruit on the finish with great freshness, a hint of strawberry jam, chocolate and licorice. Already well developed and very drinkable.

First of the vintage in Primeur, this wine maintains its place after bottling. Tasted in the morning at the château, I returned in the afternoon to taste this opened bottle kept cool. For pleasure, I give you both comments. Morning. Dark, intense and beautiful color. Moderately aromatic nose, fine, fruity, pure, opening on swirling where it gains in depth. Entry on the palate, both rich and subtle, followed by a delightful development in which the wine will reveal itself rich, on a present yet airy body, with much brilliance in the flavor. It finishes long and totally unspittable. 5 hours later. Dark, intense and beautiful color. Nose more intense than in the morning, fine, with a more powerful development, while remaining subtle. Two aromatic nuances appear: creaminess and almond. Aeration has greatly unified the palate. Now the wine presents itself all in meticulous amplitude, with much brilliance in the flavor, a style in roundness more unified than in the morning and extremely indulgent, to which Petrus had not accustomed us. It is a delight, perfumed, deep, with much class in the general and final touch. I draw your attention to the fact that this is not a small vintage at Petrus, but a great one.

Tasted blind. Deep ruby colour. Roasted red fruits on the nose. Strawberry and garrigue – quite unique in this vintage and perhaps beyond! Very succulent and round; very red fruited. If anything, a touch too ripe in its red fruit, but there is real persistence to the finish. Creamy and very polished.

Petrus is one of the most emblematic and sought-after wines of the Pomerol appellation, occupying a unique place in the Bordeaux wine landscape. Unlike the grands crus classés of the Médoc, Pomerol has no official classification, yet Pétrus has established itself over time as the absolute reference of the appellation, recognized for the singularity of its terroir and the exceptional consistency of its wines.

The Petrus vineyard rests on a unique plateau of iron-clay soils, dominated by a high proportion of blue clay, which is rare in Bordeaux. This terroir gives the wines a dense structure, remarkable depth, and an immediately recognizable identity. The grape variety used is almost exclusively Merlot, a variety that finds here an expression of rare intensity.

The international renown of Petrus was built during the 20th century, particularly driven by influential figures who shaped its style and reputation. The wines of Pétrus are distinguished by their richness, their silky texture, and their exceptional aging potential.
