Renowned worldwide for its unrivaled taste, the Petrus 1961 is a Pomerol appellation wine (AOC). Both rich and velvety, it displays delicious aromas of blackcurrant and cherries and becomes more and more fleshy over time. So in short, here is why you should fall for this anthology vintage at SoDivin.
The Petrus 1961: an anthology vintage.
The Petrus 1961 is one of the exceptional wines. World-renowned, it is the most popular of the Pomerol appellation. It must be said that it comes from a prestigious vineyard that has seduced the greatest names in this world. Present at the wedding of Elizabeth II, this red Bordeaux wine also brings joy to the Kennedy family who never cease to praise its taste for excellence throughout the world.
A wine for laying down by nature, it displays aromas of cherries, blackcurrants, violets, liquorice and truffles. In terms of its color, it is rich, round and velvety. Incredibly harmonious and persistent, the Petrus 1961 is an anthology vintage to be enjoyed for very special occasions.
Château Petrus
Located on a plateau in the eastern part of Pomerol, Château Petrus was bought in 1969 by Jean-Pierre Moueix. On 11.4 ha, the vines benefit from a very special soil since it is composed of black and blue clay which gives it this special taste. Composed of 100% Merlot, the estate uses a sustainable cultivation method and produces an exceptional vintage each year. For the year of Petrus 1961, you choose an amber and garnet colored wine with extremely full-bodied flavors and a creamy texture. It will pair wonderfully with tender, red meats like beef with carrots or wood pigeon.

Château informations
Petrus is one of the most emblematic and sought-after wines of the Pomerol appellation, occupying a special place in the Bordeaux wine landscape. Unlike the great classified growths of the Médoc, Pomerol has no official classification, but Pétrus has established itself over time as the absolute reference of the appellation, recognized for the singularity of its terroir and the exceptional consistency of its wines.
The Petrus vineyard rests on a unique plateau of clay-ferruginous soils, dominated by a high proportion of blue clay, rare in Bordeaux. This terroir gives the wines a dense structure, remarkable depth and an immediately recognizable identity. The grape variety is almost exclusively composed of Merlot, a grape that finds here an expression of rare intensity.
The international renown of Petrus was built in the 20th century, notably under the impetus of remarkable figures who shaped its style and reputation. Petrus wines are distinguished by their richness, silky texture and exceptional aging potential. Among the emblematic vintages Petrus 1961, Petrus 1982, Petrus 1989, Petrus 1990, Petrus 2000, Petrus 2005, Petrus 2009, Petrus 2010, Petrus 2011, Petrus 2016, Petrus 2017, Petrus 2018, regularly cited among the greatest wines of Bordeaux.
