The Château Mouton Rothschild is one of the most prestigious wine in Bordeaux. Since 1973, it is a first classified growth in Médoc classification of 1855.
Purchased in 1853 by Nathaniel de Rothschild, Brane Mouton became a legend under the name of Mouton-Rothschild. With the advent of Baron Philippe de Rothschild Chateau Mouton Rothschild became the truly monumental 1er Cru it is today. In addition to the construction of cellars and buildings, and the ascension to 1er Cru status, it is the passion of a lifetime manifested in action by this remarkable man. Ranked Second Cru in 1855, it is now, since 1973, a premier cru classe. His motto became "First I am, second I was, Mouton does not change." The elegance and magic of this wine has charmed the most important contemporary artists who each year, illustrate their an original work of art on the label of Chateau Mouton Rothschild. Chateau D'Armailhac and Chateau Clerc Milon followed suit in the quality of the Rothschild family.

(02-2022) The 1982 Mouton Rothschild is drinking brilliantly today, soaring from the glass with aromas of cassis, dark berry fruit, charcoal, pencil shavings, espresso roast and loamy soil. Full-bodied, ample and enveloping, it's a layered, sumptuous wine that's remarkably seamless and complete, with impressive concentration, ripe but lively acids and fine, melting tannins. Long and resonant, this is a great wine that can keep company with the likes of Mouton's 1961, 1959 and 1955.

(06-2001) Glorious aromas. Dark ruby red. Wonderful perfumes of flowers, berry and lilac. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long and pretty finish. Balanced. Class in a glass.
Acker Merrall et Condit:(06-2014) This was a spectacular wine that wasn’t all about the pleasure; in fact, it may more have been about the pain and rain, but it was much longer than anything we had this night. This was a lifetime wine, and while arguably all of the Burgundies gave more pleasure now, there was no question which wine would still be standing long after all of us. The debate of now versus later in the context of greatness will always be debatable, and while I got more pleasure out of the Burgundies, I still recognized that this was the wine of the night.
