Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
High tones, medium/full bodied, with more interesting things going on in the nose, with its spice filled, tobacco, cedar, red plum, smoke and leafy aromatics than on the crisp, red berry, sweet and tart palate. No decanting needed, this requires drinking as the fruit is already in a slow state of decline.

The color is beautiful. The nose offers a blend of fruit and tea. This vegetal aspect amplifies on swirling. The wine enters the mouth with fluidity, before showing itself more massive in the middle. It finishes too tannic and too rustic. The year was abundant and rainy. This explains that. Nevertheless, there are more pleasant and better-made 79s.

Medium carmine garnet, violet reflections, still youthful color, delicately earthy. On the nose fine dried fruit notes, plums (roasted). On the palate strict tannins, red berry fruit nuances, preserved cherries, firm core, but not much charm, the emphasis is on acidity. This time fine hints of plum roaster, subtly sweet confit. On the palate firm tannins that appear somewhat hard and dry, red berry fruit, medium texture and length, vital acidity play.

Lots of fragrance and flavour but tarred with the same '79 tannic tar brush. Good flesh, fair fruit, spicy. An attractive if lean mouthful. A bit raw and very tannic.

Château Mouton Rothschild
Château Mouton Rothschild

Mouton Rothschild is undoubtedly one of the most famous wine estates in the world. In the Pauillac AOC, it has been a First Growth in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification since 1973.

Purchased in 1853 by Nathaniel de Rothschild, Brane Mouton entered into legend under the name Château Mouton-Rothschild. It was with the advent of Baron Philippe de Rothschild that Mouton truly became the monumental 1st Growth that it is today. Mouton Rothschild 1945 and 1982 are among their finest vintages. Beyond the construction of cellars and buildings, and the accession to First Growth status, it is the passion of a lifetime rediscovered in action by this exceptional man.

Classified as a Second Growth in 1855, Château Mouton Rothschild has been a First Growth since 1973. Its motto "First I cannot be, second I do not deign to be, Mouton I am" has thus become "First I am, second I was, Mouton does not change".

The elegance and magic of this wine have thus charmed the greatest contemporary artists who, each year, illustrate Mouton's priceless wines with their art by creating an original work on the label. Château D'Armailhac and Château Clerc Milon follow in the footsteps of this qualitative concern of the Rothschild family.

The great vintages of Château Mouton Rothschild are: 1994, 1989, 1986, 1985, 1983, 1982, 1970, 1966, 1962, 1961, 1959, 1955, 1953, 1949, 1947, 1945
