CHÂTEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD 2003

The 2003 vintage marks the 150th anniversary of Mouton Rothschild in a family line of five generations. Baron Nathaniel is represented on the Mouton Rothschild 2003 label by a vintage photograph. The background refers to the act of purchase of the domain. A rare and unique document preciously preserved in the archives of the Château.
Château Mouton Rothschild 2003 has great finesse, typical of Cabernet with touches of blackcurrant, cedar and caramel. This Premier Cru Classé is made up of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. It is one of the Château's greatest successes in recent years.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Cigar box, jammy black raspberry, mint, ash, tobacco, cedar wood, cloves, cinnamon and wet forest floor notes start the fireworks. On the palate, the rich, sensuous, flamboyant, showy wine is a hedonistic treat for the senses from start to finish. The early harvest took place between September 15 and September 25.

(3-2006) Blackberry, cherry and currant with just a hint of toasted oak. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a lovely combination of ripe fruit and vanilla character. Goes on and on. Long and very stylish. Balanced and refined.

The color is slightly evolved. Fruity nose, smoky and creamy. Fat at the attack, purfumed in the middle, juicy, this wine does not loose it's fat and ends long with lots of flavor and fine tannins without the dryness that the year is known for. Shocking.

This wine is dominated by new wood, which goes right through the big, dark fruit flavors and tannins. Very ripe cassis flavors are under this wood, waiting likely for many years before the wood flavors subside. This is very much in the modern, polished style of Mouton today, made even more pronounced by the heat of the 2003 vintage.

Falstaff December - 2006

Bright ruby garnet, good depth of color, violet reflections. Very clear blackberry confit on the nose, very “Mouton”, very pure, without any rusty aromas. Smooth on the palate, again very pure, harmonious and complex, with a good mineral aftertaste. A very straightforward young Mouton, still somewhat discreet and noble. Substantial, structured, juicy primary fruit on the palate, a powerful wine, shows very good length, with potential, chocolate in the aftertaste.

Château Mouton Rothschild
Château Mouton Rothschild

Mouton Rothschild is arguably one of the best-known wine estates in the world. In AOC Pauillac, since 1973 it has been First Classified Growth in the official classification of Bordeaux wines of 1855.

Bought in 1853 by Nathaniel de Rothschild, Brane Mouton became legendary under the name of Château Mouton-Rothschild. It is with the advent of Baron Philippe de Rothschild that Mouton really becomes the monumental 1er Cru that it is today. Mouton Rothschild 1945 and 1982 are among their finest vintages. In addition to the construction of cellars and buildings, and the accession to Premier Cru status, it is the passion of a lifetime rediscovered in action by this exceptional man.

Classified as a Second Classified Growth in 1855, Château Mouton Rothschild has been a Premier Classified Growth since 1973. Its motto "First not then, second not deign, Mouton am" thus became "First I am, second I was, Mouton does not change".

The elegance and magic of this wine have thus charmed the greatest contemporary artists who, each year, illustrate with their art the priceless wines of Mouton by creating an original work on the label. Château D'Armailhac and Château Clerc Milon follow in the footsteps of this quality concern of the Rothschild family.

The great vintages of Château Mouton Rothschild are: 1994, 1989, 1986, 1985, 1983, 1982, 1970, 1966, 1962, 1961, 1959, 1955, 1953, 1949, 1947, 1945
