This wine has consistently exhibited a great deal of oak and peppery, mineral-scented black currant fruit in its blossoming nose. In the mouth, it exhibits the tannic ferocity that characterizes many 1986s, but is surprisingly lighter than I would have expected. A good effort, but it could use more depth and concentration, particularly if one compares it with the 1982 or 1989.

The 18 hectares of exterior plots, the vines less than 10 years old and the possibly downgraded cuvées produce the second wine of the estate, "Les Forts de Latour". The wine of Château Latour is an example of regularity regardless of the quality of the vintage. Firm, tannic and concentrated in its youth ...
