Expert's opinions

Information on the vintage red Bordeaux: Unquestionably better than the three prededing vintage and certainly interesting, not to say challenging. The summer heat and the dryness, whilst helping the sugar content, thickened the skins. It resulted in wines of good fruit with high alcohol content, dark colour and high tannins. It was, still is, the latter which has caused the controversy.

Cellar Tracker
Garnet with a light halo - does not look its age at all. Tannins are completely resolved. Candied rhubarb. Mustiness lingers. Earthy. Forest floor. Umami. Evolves very fast in the glass. Old paper. On the palate, all mushroom - like morels in butter. Candied dark berry. Dates or fig. Absolutely fascinating. Then a flavor of cantaloupe or tangerine emerges. Followed by blood orange. Then it fades out. A slight bump of salinity emerges at the end. It’s beautiful, but open and drink within an hour or this shooting star is gone!

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
True to the vintage and to Latour, this wine is tannic, lean, aggressive, and still in need of bottle age. The color remains impressive, the richness and depth appear to be present, but the tannins refuse to yield.

Château Latour
Château Latour

Château Latour is one of the most emblematic estates of the Pauillac appellation and a founding reference in Bordeaux wine history. Its name appears as early as the 14th century, linked to the presence of a watchtower on the Gironde estuary, whose proximity still profoundly marks the vineyard's identity. From the 18th century onwards, Château Latour wines have been recognized for their consistency and aging potential, establishing themselves among the greatest wines of the Médoc.

Classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé during the official 1855 classification, Château Latour occupies a central place at the top of the Bordeaux hierarchy. The estate is based on a particularly homogeneous terroir of deep gravels, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, which gives the wines a powerful structure, remarkable depth and great regularity of expression.

The signature of Château Latour is distinguished by a dense tannic architecture and demanding construction, favoring precision and longevity rather than immediate seduction. Iconic vintages such as Château Latour 1945, Château Latour 1961, Château Latour 1990, Château Latour 1996, Château Latour 2000 or Château Latour 2009 illustrate the estate's capacity to consistently express the excellence of the Pauillac terroir and the singularity of its style.
