Cellar Tracker August - 2022

Nonetheless, a friend was given a bottle as a present, and we tasted this after decanting for an hour or so. The full was high (no signs of leakage) and the top 2/3rds of the cork were like new. At opening it was completely closed up as would be expected. This developed into a subtly aromatic wine. Concentrated and focused. Quince paste, white figs, thyme, eucalyptus, camphor, new leather. Long lasting finish with hints of pepper and spices. Totally fine stuff.

Dark red color. Slight evolution. Good intensity in absolute terms and for the vintage. Very beautiful. Nose of medium intensity. Animal touch, on a background of spice, wood, which lacks fruit. On swirling, already close to a bouquet. Rounded structure, which takes on a creamy flavor in the mid-palate but more lean than 94 and 93. The interest lies in the final aromas where the fruit returns with spice and wood. Tastes very well at the moment.

Château Latour
Château Latour

Château Latour is one of the most emblematic estates of the Pauillac appellation and a founding reference in Bordeaux wine history. Its name appears as early as the 14th century, linked to the presence of a watchtower on the Gironde estuary, whose proximity still profoundly marks the vineyard's identity. From the 18th century onwards, Château Latour wines have been recognized for their consistency and aging potential, establishing themselves among the greatest wines of the Médoc.

Classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé during the official 1855 classification, Château Latour occupies a central place at the top of the Bordeaux hierarchy. The estate is based on a particularly homogeneous terroir of deep gravels, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, which gives the wines a powerful structure, remarkable depth and great regularity of expression.

The signature of Château Latour is distinguished by a dense tannic architecture and demanding construction, favoring precision and longevity rather than immediate seduction. Iconic vintages such as Château Latour 1945, Château Latour 1961, Château Latour 1990, Château Latour 1996, Château Latour 2000 or Château Latour 2009 illustrate the estate's capacity to consistently express the excellence of the Pauillac terroir and the singularity of its style.
