The Wine Palate : A blend of 80% Semillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc, with 155 grams per liter of residual sugar, the 2009 Yquem has a pale to medium straw-gold color. It waltzes out with gregarious notions of key lime pie, orange blossoms, and juicy white peaches, followed by suggestions of ginger ale, wet pebbles, and allspice. The big, concentrated, decadently rich palate is fantastically balanced, with a laser-precise line of freshness cutting through the tightly wound layers, finishing very long, with loads of citrusy sparks.

Bright medium golden yellow, silvery reflections. Fresh orange blossoms, a hint of bourbon vanilla, fresh apricot, a touch of grapefruit zest, floral, immensely multi-faceted fragrance. Juicy, elegant, creamy texture, ripe pineapple and yellow peach, finely integrated wood nuances, delicate caramel on the finish, has good freshness. Already drinkable.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
In comparison to the 2010 vintage, the 2009 d'Yquem is more concentrated with a stunning "rôti," the consequence of noble rot in French. Developing a powerful, complex bouquet with aromas of pineapple, apricot, saffron, flowers, spices and orchard fruits, it’s dense and concentrated, full-bodied and layered with a crystalline texture complicated by notes of white truffles that reveal a racy, endless and a superb finish concluding with a pristine harmony. Readers with bottles in their cellars will have to be patient before opening this masterpiece with 155 grams of residual sugar.

Yellow color, tinged with gray. Fabulous nose! Intense, fine, subtle, noble, complex. Splendid for the meticulousness of its texture, the wine melts, noble and complex on flavors of candied fruits, dense, but very airy. Marvelous roasted finish, noble and subtle at the same time. Bravo!

Barrel sample. The aromas are so rich and powerful, with great ripe apricots. There are honey, spice and beautiful sweet spiced pears. This is an extraordinary wine in an extraordinary year in Sauternes.

Young, rich, opulent, silky, fresh, vibrant, full, and deep, with enough blazing acidity to allow all the layers of vanilla and honey-coated orange and yellow tropical fruits to bathe your palate again and again with this stunning, sweet treat. OK, so this is still obviously young, and primary, but it is such a delicious experience now, that it was impossible to put my glass down. Patience might be a virtue. But there are times when patience is over rated.

Golden robe. Powerful nose, honeyed and floral, with flesh of pear in syrup. Simple and massive. Remarkable concentration, power and freshness. A very ripe vintage, with impressive length. Opinion based on potential.

Magazine RVF 554 The significant proportion of Sauvignon (20%) gives this 2009 great freshness, despite its 155 g of sugar per liter. In terms of richness, it is reminiscent of the very famous 2001!

Château d'Yquem
Château d'Yquem

Château d'Yquem is an absolute reference for great sweet wines and occupies a unique place in the wine history of Bordeaux. Located in the heart of the Sauternes appellation, the estate benefits from exceptional terroir and microclimate that favor the development of botrytis cinerea. During the official classification of 1855, Château d'Yquem obtained an unparalleled status by being consecrated Premier Cru Supérieur, a unique distinction among the great classified growths.

The identity of Château d'Yquem is based on extreme rigor at every stage of production: very low yields, harvesting by successive selections and rigorous selection of grapes. Long owned by the Lur Saluces family, the estate has belonged since 1997 to the LVMH group, which has chosen to preserve the technical independence and historical rigor of the château.

In great years, Château d'Yquem gives birth to vintages that have become emblematic, such as Château d'Yquem 1908, Château d'Yquem 1921, Château d'Yquem 1945, Château d'Yquem 1949, Château d'Yquem 1967, Château d'Yquem 2009, illustrating an exceptional aging capacity, which can extend over several decades, or even beyond.
