The bell on the Château Angélus label recalls the moments of contemplation of the eponymous prayer. She is the symbol of Castle Angelus. Even if it is touched up with gold and modernized behind its elegance, it expresses the values of tradition and high standards, in the service of the reputation of Château Angélus.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Structured, masculine, tannic, and firm, this velvety-textured wine will appeal more to lovers of traditional, old-fashioned Bordeaux than it does to me. It will age well, but it won't have the seductive personality I love and associate with Angélus.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
This is typical 1995 in that it’s young, tannic, masculine and still vigorous and foreboding. This vintage at age 20 seems reluctant to evolve in the most graceful manner possible, but it is still easily holding on to life and still has a fair amount of tannin left to resolve. The wine is concentrated, but will the tannin ever soften to the point where it is well-integrated? This can be drunk now, as the aromatics are enticing and complex. Although, be aware of the tannin clout the wine still possesses. Drink 2017-2030.

Jean-Marc Quarin October - 2015
Jean-Marc Quarin
Blind. Not decanted. Darker robe than the others and slightly aged. Ripe, toasted and fruity aromas. On the palate, it is just as refined as the previous one, with a fuller body. The wine develops juicily, but its persistence only manifests itself in the finish, when the tannins become more present. A pleasant length due to the toasted oak.

Château Angelus
Château Angelus

Château Angelus was promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé A of Saint-Emilion in 2012 (previously it had been 1er Grand Cru Classé B since 1954). It shares the top of the Saint-Emilion Wine classification with Châteaux Ausone, Cheval Blanc and Pavie.

The Château Angelus vineyard is located on the hillside, a steep south-facing slope. The clay-limestone soil rests on a limestone base. The grape variety consists of approximately 51% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. In certain years such as 2003, the proportion of Cabernet Franc even exceeds that of Merlot! The wine matures for 18 to 22 months in new barrels. Since 2018, Château Angelus has initiated its conversion to organic farming which should be completed in 2023.

The greatest vintages of the château are Angelus 1988, Angelus 1989, Angelus 1990, Angelus 1993, Angelus 1994, Angelus 2000 and Angelus 2001.
