CHÂTEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD 2000

To drink between 2010 and 2060
Exceptionally, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild did not commission any painter to create an artistic label.
For the 2000 vintage, it is the bottle and not the label that has become rare and unique. On this dark glass bottle, we see the small "Augsburg ram", created in 1590 by the German master goldsmith Jacob Schenauer. The golden ring near the bottle's capsule reproduces the design engraved on the ram's collar and recalls the scrolled engravings of its body. The coat of arms, the name, the vintage, as well as the owner's signature have been screen-printed in fine gold.
Château Mouton Rothschild 2000 reveals the expression and breeding of Mouton's great vintages. Its richness and harmony are reminiscent of the very fine 1986 vintage.

Dark color, medium intensity and evolved. Intense, fruity, creamy and seductive nose. Beautiful ample entry on the palate, then the wine develops fat, rich, with volume in the middle, then power in the finish. It ends very flavorful with great length and noble texture. Spectacular expression.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Deep garnet colored with a touch of brick, the 2000 Mouton Rothschild (composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot) boldly bursts from the glass with tantalizing Black Forest cake, dried mulberries, kirsch and blackcurrant pastilles notes plus wafts of iodine, incense, potpourri and cinnamon stick with a hint of cigar boxes. Medium to full-bodied, the palate packs in the muscular fruit, framed by firm, ripe, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with phenomenal length. This is an incredibly complex and multifaceted wine, and it's drinking deliciously now. This said, I can’t help but feel that it is holding something back, that it still has another layer of opulence and seduction to reveal in its tight-knit fruit and solid structure. I personally can’t wait to see how this beauty will continue to unfold over the years to come.

The game and bloody perfume is beginning to develop here, a very fine, racy ash and smoke note over refined black fruit. The berry richness suggests great ripeness. The palate has delightful balance, with very acidity and intense concentration, but the tannins and lovely length of the wine show brilliant harmony and huge potential.

Espresso bean, Asian spice, crushed stone, mulberries, cassis and floral aromas make up the complex perfume. Luscious, rich, round and filled with plush, dark berries, this opulent, stylish Pauillac finishes with silky tannins, rich, spicy, dark berries. 5-10 more years will add a lot to this strong wine.

Dark, glowing ruby. Notably toasty nose – odd for a first growth! Easy to like for its sweetness and toastiness.

Château Mouton Rothschild
Château Mouton Rothschild

Château Mouton Rothschild is one of the most iconic wine estates in the world. Located in the Pauillac appellation, it is the only wine from the official 1855 Bordeaux classification to have been elevated to the rank of Premier Cru Classé in 1973, after having been initially classified as Second Cru.

Acquired in 1853 by Nathaniel de Rothschild, the estate then named Brane-Mouton became Château Mouton Rothschild and entered into legend under the impetus of Baron Philippe de Rothschild. A visionary, he profoundly modernized the vineyard, developed the cellars and imposed absolute quality standards, making Mouton one of the greatest wines of Bordeaux. His motto illustrates this unique ascension: "Premier je suis, second je fus, Mouton ne change".

The singularity of Mouton Rothschild is also expressed through its artistic labels, illustrated each year by renowned contemporary artists, reinforcing its cultural and heritage aura. This quest for excellence is also found in the other properties of the Rothschild family, notably Château Clerc Milon and Château d'Armailhac.

Among the most iconic vintages of Château Mouton Rothschild are:
